These are the type of people Dangerfield Newby faced in his last moments on Earth, Harper’s Ferry, 1859: Professor Christopher Chambers was live today on SiriusXM channel 124, speaking on the Aurora Shooting. A caller “Bill from Houma, Louisiana” opined that midnight movies are worse influences on teenagers and children than assault rifles. Somehow Barack Obama & Eric Holder entered in the conversation as culpable. Perhaps people would appreciate George Zimmerman, another person stated. I replied, “No. He would have shot the teen black ushers, then cowered under the seat. It takes either tungsten nerves, or stark lunacy, or utter nihilism to take aim and kill someone who could also shoot back.”

OK, so we all know your views on race, Obama, the 2nd Amendment, gas price lies perpetrated by Fox News, etc. etc. But even those of you who are cephalo-fundament-ally challenged must agree that Stand Your Ground doesnt mean you can be Chuck Norris/the agressor. It’s nice if you are a racist. It’s nice if you are an ignorant and incompetent cop who needs cover for such ignorance and wilful nonfeasance. But when it’s a “mistake” you dont get a mulligan on a human life, even a black kid’s life (which, as we see on Nancy Grace, is not worth ratings).Amend the laws or better still get rid of them, because we all know, in our heart of hearts, they serve only as cover for evil and stupidty. Newby died in 1859 in John Brown's raid on the federal company town of Harpers Ferry. White townspeople fed his dead body to pigs. He joined Brown to forstall the sale of his wife, not to start a revolution. And in dying, he started a revolution. His body's long disintegrated into loam; his consciousness survives in bits and bytes. Enjoy. Engage. Enrage.
Chambers is alive, of course, and lives 80 miles from Harpers Ferry in Washington DC. He teaches at Georgetown University, contributes to RT America, MSNBC and Smithsonian Magazine.
